We read the entire Psalm 91 last week and it’s important and imperative that you are aware of the promises in Psalm 91. Today we go farther. I will say of the Lord – Yahweh, we touched on Yahweh last week – “He is my refuge and my fortress – my Elohim, alright, my God is my Elohim – in Him I will trust.” I will trust.
Psalm 91:3: Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler. Very interesting. The snare of the fowler is a picture of a bird trapped. Okay. And we are likened like birds. In fact, the analogy and the picture of birds is used often. And God will deliver you from the perilous pestilence. This perilous pestilence is open pestilence. Perilous pestilence here means open pestilence. Like Ebola, like SARS. Well God surely will deliver you, He says. Right. So we are starting to see the promises of God of Psalms 91.
And here, the next promise: He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. Now we have the picture of God as an eagle. Which, many of the Scriptures talk about Him as an eagle. Alright, He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall trust. And when you start thinking about it, we must use language of Scripture. The Bible says that God wants to be an eagle for protection. We ask ourselves why? Why an eagle? Okay.
And the last line says: His truth shall be your shield and buckler. Shield is a large shield that covers your front. But buckler literally is a shield that goes around. It goes around the person. Like, in the ancient times they had a fortress or a fort and you had walls that go around. It is a protection all around. Interesting. Buckler. His shield shall be a shield and buckler. Now, how do you know that the Bible says the law was given by Moses but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ? And that’s why to believe in the Psalms 91 you cannot be under the law because all the names of God are the first verse. Elion, El-Shaddai. Voice of Abraham’s promise. People under Abraham’s blessing who are not under the law. Are you listening, people? Okay.
This analogy here of God being covered in feathers and under his wings you shall take refuge, His truth is grace. I am going to prove to you these eagle wings is a picture of grace, and then his truth. So here we have again hesed and emet grace and truth in the Old Testament. Hesed and emet. How do we know? Because this ‘feathers’ is evra in Hebrew and the ‘under his wings’ is kanaph. Now, kanaph is very interesting because in the last chapter it says unto you that fear my name – the last chapter of the entire Old Testament Malachi it says unto you that fear my name shall descend as the era of righteousness arise with healing in His wings. Wings is kanaph, literally. And I’m going to prove to you literally that eagles’ wings is what is fear of grace.
In Exodus 19, do you remember Exodus 19? It’s just before Exodus 20. There’s a revelation. And Exodus 20 is where you find the 10 Commandments. It’s where you find the 10 Commandments. Amen. It’s where you find the 10 Commandments. Now, Exodus 19, God brought them, they just came out of Egypt weeks ago and God brought them to Mount Cyanide and God called Moses from the mountain and God says this is what you will say to eternal Israel: You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself. God wanted them to continue the garden of Abraham. Which is, God brought them out not because they were good but because He is good. God didn’t open up the red sea because they were faithful but because He was faithful. They were complaining every step of the way. Every step of the way they were complaining.
God didn’t sweeten the bitter waters of Marah because of their obedience or because God was keeping his covenant with Abraham, which is unconditional covenant. And now God says continue in that covenant. Grace brought you all this far, grace will bring you home. And they’re saved, after this they’re saved. So, eagles’ wings is here. God is saying from Egypt all the way to Cyanide is the pair of eagles wings. So, in other words, the grace pair is a pair of eagles wings. In other words, when I am under grace I walk a whole lot faster. I progress a whole lot faster. Amen. I grow a whole lot faster. My blessings will help me facilitate things a whole lot faster.
If you study carefully their journey from Egypt to Mount Cyanide, there is no way they can make it in 50 days. Now way. I’ll tell you right now, no way. Even when they walk. But the Bible says even their legs did not swell. During the 40 years. Imagine this period from Egypt to Mount Cyanide. So in other words they didn’t realize that they walked and walked and walked and all of a sudden more mountains are passed. It’s a supernatural walk. It’s like being born on eagles wings. It’s a period of pure grace. Whether it is enemies coming against them, whether it is natural disasters, whatever God provided for them. Do you think they were perfect during this time? Now way. They were complaining. They were complaining every step of the way. Complaining is sin.
God says I bore you on eagles’ wings. Against all of your enemies, against all of the lack. And all of the necessities. Isn’t God good? But I want to tell you this. That this period of pure grace is now ours. Now I want to share with you in closing we talked about the names of God, didn’t we? Okay we have, the first one again, we have Elyon. We have Shaddai. We have Yahweh. We have Elohim. All of these names are very important because when God appeared to Moses God says that when I appear to Abraham, Isaac and Joseph by my name Yahweh was I not known to them but by my name El Shaddai. In other words, Abraham, Isaac and Joseph knew God more as El Shaddai than Yahweh. But, study their lives. Yahweh was mentioned. They call upon Yahweh but yet the revelation of Yahweh was not strong to them. So, studying the names is important.
Every name has a significance. Can I get an Amen? So, we have Most High, Almighty, Lord, and Elohim. And in the last verse of Psalm 91, here is something that God gave me many years ago. I’ve never heard anyone preach this but I’m telling you that people stop there. They say the names of God in Verse 1 and I tell you there is a lost name in the last Verse. With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation. The entire Psalm ends with Jesus, literally. My Yeshua, in Hebrew. So that is a name, Yeshua. Can you see that? But don’t forget there is one more name that Jesus came to reveal. It is all important.
In as much as you learned Psalm 91, all of the Old Testament Scripture, whatever it is, it must be brought into the new time. If you want to say I don’t know the names of God as much, it’s all right Child of God, there’s only one name you need to know. Father. Father. And that name denotes what? Family.
Now, Church, protection in the Father’s name is amazing. Jesus himself said in the High Priestly prayer, let’s eavesdrop, okay. Men, Adam drop. (Laughter). So as you listen to – sorry, that was bad. Anyway, John 17. Jesus pray. Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to you. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are.
Keep through Your name. The only name that Jesus came to reveal if Father. And it puzzled them. Even it was first offered to the Jewish people. He says, hey, don’t worry about what you shall eat, what you shall drink, what you shall wear. Your Heavenly Father knows you are in need of these things. If your Father clothed the lilies of the field, which today is tomorrow burnt up, how much more will He clothe you? Oh ye of little faith, your Father knows what you need before you ask Him. Keep on preaching your Father, your Father, your Father, but only through the Nation of Israel in anticipation of them receiving Him as the King, becoming God’s children, but they rejected Him. They only knew God as stern; I want to keep God in the Holy of Holies. They want to keep God in the temple so that they can do whatever they want. They don’t want this closeness.
It’s amazing that Joseph, after he reconciled his brothers, the first thing he said was this, I am Joseph. The next thing he said was, come near me. And these are the brothers that betrayed him. Rejected him. Caused him years of pain. Alright. He says, come near me. And then he says, I’ll put you in the land, you and the little ones, and your flock and all that you have in the land of Goshen. Look up the word Goshen. Everything has a meaning in the Bible. The word Goshen, alright, it means drawing near. Goshen. And in that place, I’ll provide for you. Draw near to God.

Joseph Prince: The Father knows what you need before you ask Him.
Before you board a plane, you’ll say Father, Father in Heaven how we love you. Father you are close to me and Father you’re going on board this plane with me. Pray. That’s more important than I claim this, I claim that, you know? Like you think that God works by you pushing buttons. I push, your turn, don’t forget your turn. You know? (Laughter).
And sometimes we think that our confession of this and our confession of that – friend, let’s get real. Come on. This is not claiming the promises without drawing near. And all of this about under the shadow, under his wings you will take refuge, speaks of closeness, love, family. You know, the only the little ones that can take refuge under the – the little eaglets – under the Mother eagle are her own. It’s a family thing. It’s a family thing. Poppy can’t do that. (Laughter).
So, we think the Mother’s love is like gospel. But even then, the mother’s love is – God’s love is amazing. God loves the unlovable. Even those that were not His; when He saved them they were not His. A mother loves a child because he’s hers. Compare to a Father’s love.
So, Jesus says, keep through Your name. That’s protection in the name of the Father. While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. You know how Jesus kept them all from backsliding? Okay? It would have been worse for Peter, worse for others, in terms of backsliding, had Jesus not reminded them your Father loves you, your Father understands you, your Father knows what you need. Your Father, your Father. That’s how He keeps them and our leaders, that’s how He keeps people. Alright. Your Father, Heaven Father. Don’t just say, God, God. There are times you say God, yes. But, your Father. Drop it down.
I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. Other translations say, keep them out of evil. The evil of this world. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. A Pastor Prince, he prayed for the peace of the disciples. Drop it down.
I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word. That’s you. That’s you. I will not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe Me through their word. That’s you. Say Amen. Alright. And finally, the Lord wants us to enjoy the Father’s love. Enjoy the Father’s love. And answer these two verses.
O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me. Don’t expect the world to understand your relationship with the Father. And I have declared to them Your name – what’s Your name? Father – and will declare it – I’ll keep on declaring- that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them. Beautiful. Beautiful.
Genesis 22. Now it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, Hineni. I am here, in Hebrew. I am here. And then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love. When you think about it, Abraham had two sons. One is Ishmael.
So, why did God say, your only son? Because God was talking about His son. His only son. The son that He loves. And we all know that God didn’t want a human offering. It was a test and a visual demonstration that will be erect for all time, for all generations, to see the love of God because, friend, this is the first time in the Bible the word love Ahava is mentioned. The first mention is here. And the first mention tells you about the love of the Father for the son. God knew. It was hard for Abraham. But he was a man of faith. And go to Moriah. Drop it down.
So Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering – we’re jumping ahead because of time. Three days, the Bible says, three days journey. If you’re going to Jerusalem, I can show the journey that they took. Alright. All the way to Mount Moriah, which is a temple mount today.
Now, the Bible says there were two young men that followed them, and a donkey. And the wood. And Abraham says, you guys stay here and we, my son and I, will go there and worship. The first mention of worship in English. But, in Hebrew, it’s the second time it is. Worship involves the Cross. It involves redemption. When Jesus touched on worship with the woman of the well, He told her, the Father seeketh such to worship Him. Oooh. The Father is looking. The Father is looking for worshipers. That’s what the son said. And He’s a son that God loves. You see, you never know how much God loves you until you know how much God loves His son because He gave up His son for you.
So they went and Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife, and the two of them went together. But Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, “My Father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.”
My son. It is not just Beanie affection. His heart was full. He realized what was going to happen but His son doesn’t know. HaAv, My Father. Hineni Beanie. Here I am, my son. “Look” – Isaac said – “the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” Where is the lamb for a burnt offering? And Abraham answered, “My son” – Beanie – “God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering.” And the son carried the wood on there. It might be hard for Abraham. He probably covered the boy’s eyes before he plunged the knife in the back. God said, Abraham, Abraham! He says, yes Lord? Don’t lay your hand on your son. Now I know that you fear Me because you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.
See, how do you and I know that God loves us? Because God has not withheld His son, His only son from me, from us. The only difference is this. God spared Abraham’s son. God spared this elderly man of the pain of his son’s death. But God has not spared His own heart. And God says, look behind you. And he looked behind. Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son. So God spared Abraham something He never spared himself.
Again, I was reading this, and I always thought the reason why the ram is caught, and it’s true, is that God wants the offering without blemish. Without lacerations, and all of that. If the ram was caught and it teared its fur and its skin, its delicate skin, it would not be a perfect offering. But it was caught by its horns. It was not as if – rams are not stupid. Little lambs might be. Rams, you are mature. He walked right into it. He gave himself. I believe Jesus struggled to go to the Cross when he laid on the Cross in the ground. He stunned everyone. I believe he went, not like being pulled kicking, but Jesus went there and laid himself.
The story ends like this. Abraham returned to his young men, and they rose and went together – wait a minute, Abraham returned to his young men, what about Isaac? Not mentioned. In the mind of God, only one man walked down. The offering is done. And, by the way, now it came to pass after these things that it was told, Abraham saying, “Indeed Milcah also has borne children to your brother Nahor…” Why does the chapter end with your brother has another son? (Laughter)
And that’s how the chapter ends. You know why? So you keep on reading. It’s not done here. There are about five more verses I didn’t put on, or, four more verses rather. It says, Nahor brought forth Batuel, his son. Batuel brought forth Rebekah, the pride of Isaac. In other words, Abraham came down as if Isaac didn’t come down. In reality, Isaac came down in the story. But in the Holy Spirit’s eyes, it’s the Cross of Jesus Christ.
And now the focus of the end of the chapter is on the Church. Without the Cross, there will be no Church. And the Church is not stained glass windows or building. The Church is the most powerful, the most blessed, the most accessible organization in the entire universe that God ever dreamed of.
